Re-Drawing my Roots

After completing her two year MA in Fine Art course at Central Saint Martins, London, M.Lohrum visited the island where she was born (Tenerife) to make this site-specific peformance drawing. She revisited the beach where she used to go with her family when she was a child. This place is linked to so many good and bad memories, including relaxing walks on the sand but also anxious situations. As a child she almost drowned here on several occasions, due to the strong currents.

In this work M.Lohrum turned a potentially satisfying walk into a fatiguing task by dragging her feet on the sand where a braid like shape emerges that traces her wandering. This ephemeral land art drawing later disappears without trace as the tide comes in.
